With a Ray Charles look-a-like at the piano and tall Blues Brothers figures 'welcoming' the guests, the scene was set as a taster of the main ball room.

Tables set with soul disc name places, balloons bearing the soul train logo, Blues Brothers hats and dark glasses added to the fun of the inflatable saxophones and guitars as additional 'toys' to keep the guests amused.

The Soul Train logo was projected by laser and rotated around the room and balloons had the Soul Train logo displayed in silver and black.

Dame Edna caused amusement as she made a colourful, but noisy entrance with a large bunch of gladioli. She continued to be outrageous as she moved around the tables and invited herself to sit with - and sometimes on - the unsuspecting dinner guests.

The floor show opened with a foot stomping number from a female dance group performing as the Blues Brothers. Lionel Richie took to the stage and by the time he was joined by Diana Ross, a large number of guests were already up and dancing. Tamla Motown and soul numbers were performed until the early hours of the morning, interrupted only by the raffle prize announcements. As with previous years, the casino in the adjoining room proved once again to be a big hit for players wanting to chance their hand at poker or roulette
